Have You Checked Your U-Con List twice?

Twas the night before U-Con load-in and all through the house, all the mice were scurrying because HOLY COW PEEPS! The Convention is nigh! Have I packed yet? I have plenty of time before I have to be at the storage unit early tomorrow to pack up the Games Library. Who needs sleep?

However, for most of the rest of you, here’s a handy last minute checklist of things you might not want to forget:

  • The games you are running. Consider doing a quick parts count before leaving to make sure you have everything.  If you wind up short a piece, you can always see if the Games Library has a copy of your game that you can borrow or reach out to the community and ask if anyone would mind loaning you their copy.
  • Any other games that you think you might like to have on hand to play. Open gaming is there for you.
  • Good walking shoes The layout of the convention center with respect to the Hotel (or really, anywhere else in the convention center) is quite conducive to getting your steps in. Your feet will thank you for having a pair of comfy walking shoes.
  • A solid carrying bag for your stuff. Be it a backpack, wheeled luggage or your favorite bag, you may want to pack that for hauling your stuff here and there.
  • Layerable clothes. My somewhat dubious weather app says it’ll be cloudy and between 40F and 55F all three days but it’s Michigan so it’s best to be prepared. There are also cold spots and hot spots in the convention center; layers are key.
  • Toiletries. Although there are nearby stores where you can buy replacements, it’s always nice to have everything on hand when you arrive.
  • Medications. If you have any you take, make sure they are in your go bag.
  • Snacks  There will be opportunities to purchase snacks but you might want to have a stash for the odd times the snacks service isn’t open.  Also, if you have specialty food needs you will probably want something on hand that you know you can eat.
  • Your Smart device and its charging cord.  People use phones nowadays for everything, it would be sad to forget it and its charging method. Smart devices are also a convenient gateway to purchasing any last minute tickets.
  • Your Favorite Dice and some writing utensils.  This goes without saying.
  • Cash. You will need cash for the auction but also it could come in handy for food or in the dealer’s room.
  • A water bottle.  They are just nice to have on hand for a quick rehydrate.

Is there anything I’ve forgotten to mention?  Let me know!
