U-Con – What to Expect
Welcome back returning U-Con attendees and welcome to any new U-Con attendees! We are so glad to see you. We hope you have a lot of fun playing games and getting together with your other fellow game lovers, but most of all we hope you have the best experience possible. This starts with a little self care.
We recommend following the daily 7-2-1-H! rule of thumb for each day: Get 7 hours of sleep, eat at least 2 full meals, and take at least 1 shower or bath for hygiene. Lastly, stay Hydrated! This will not only keep you in peak gaming form, but your fellow attendees will appreciate a rested, fed and delightful gaming partner. A stinky, hangry, brain muddled participant does not make good company.
There will be food service on site in various forms (we will again have buffet service and the hotel also has a restaurant on site), and water refilling stations throughout the convention. You may want to also bring a water bottle along so you can relax and enjoy your games rather than have to refill your glass in the middle of play. As for the sleep and bath/shower, you will have to juggle that to fit your schedule. If you find that you are running down in the middle of the day, may I suggest scheduling a nap? Naps are a marvelous way to rejuvenate yourself midway through the day and greatly underappreciated these days; help bring them back in style!
The convention space is deceptively big (and I always forget this when I’m setting up the Games Library and then have to pop over to Ops), so good footwear is something to consider when packing. Well fitting footwear will go a long way to making your U-Con experience a pleasant one. Even you cosplayers should consider having another pair of footwear on hand that will work for you when you’re not in costume.
Speaking of cosplay and costuming, U-Con has a cosplay policy, which talks about what types of costumes are allowed and how weapon-like objects are to be handled. All of our convention policies are listed here, which we recommend you re-read up on before entering the convention. Cosplay does not mean consent.
Due to the majority of events being included as part of your badge, we no longer have generic tickets. This also means that you can reserve spots at a game right from your smart device! If you show up to an event and there are open tickets, we politely request that you reserve them to ensure you have a spot in that game. You won’t be required to go out and get a ticket printed. However, if someone else shows up and they have reserved a spot and you haven’t, then preference will go to the person with a ticket. Our online registration will remain open until U-Con closes, so you can still get those event tickets whenever you need. During our Operating hours, you’re still welcome to stop by and sign up for events at our Operations desk, along with any other questions you may have.
Thank for all your hard work to put this convention together. I will be looking forward to future ones, but unable to attend this year because of health issues. Again Good Luck to all of the staff, judges and exhibitors volunteering their time.
