Registration Changes for Virtual U-Con
Our website has been updated for 2020. Some of the updates are cosmetic, but others are highly functional. Please read through the changes so that you can plan accordingly.
1. Adding tickets just got easier
The new site lists events by time rather than by category. You may still filter by category as before, however now you can see board games mixed in with roleplaying and other events as wanted.
We’ve extended the detail available for each event as well. The number of tickets sold and available are listed to facilitate large parties and also provide warning if in case there are not enough players to fill the event. Finally, adding the ticket no longer forces you to your registration envelope, though you can navigate there by clicking on the name of a person in your party.
There is a new section of each event listing called the platform. The platform field describes how the gamemaster intends to run the event. This may reference some form of video conference as well as any software or website necessary to run the game.
2. Tickets contain virtual meeting details
After selecting tickets into your envelope, you may see a new button “See VTT” with each game. VTT stands for Virtual Table Top. If the button appears, then the gamemaster has provided information on who how to connect to your game. (Gamemasters are asked to provide the VTT info by November 1.)
Note that there may be instructions included for contacting the gamemaster ahead of time at their discretion, so plan to check your events ahead of the convention.
3. Remove tickets you don’t need
We’re providing you with the number of seats available. The accuracy of that information depends on you, the player! If you do not need a ticket, please remove it from your registration, by using the red X in your envelope.
Removing tickets will free up space for others who want to play. It also provides the gamemaster with accurate information about how many players they have. They can try to recruit players ahead of time or cancel a game that doesn’t meet their minimum number required – everyone can plan ahead rather than being surprised.
4. Online registration will stay open
We are leaving online registration open for the duration of the convention. If a game gets cancelled, we will do our best to warn you ahead of time. We also want you to have a chance to get in to another game. Online registration will remain open during the weekend. Feel free to add new tickets, but check the VTT information quickly in case the gamemaster asked for contact ahead of time.
Final Thoughts
Come hang out with us on Discord (https://discord.gg/GqNq5j3), where you can find a pickup game between games. While the world is crazy, we hope that games bring you a little joy.
