U-Con 2019 Seminar Track

One of the greatest things about attending a con of our size is the ability for us to bring in some exciting VIPs for our guests to play with. For those of you who weren’t able to attend our “Game with the Creator” events, the next best thing is participating in one of our seminar events. Most of them will be happening Friday in the auditorium, so there’s plenty of space for everyone who wants to attend!

Friday
2pm (Auditorium) The Game Master: Facilitator or Limiter?
Is the Game Master role in most tabletop RPGs the “killer app” that makes them work, a built-in limiter that makes RPGs difficult to replicate, or some measure of both? To what degree can you change the GM’s role or remove it altogether and what happens when you do?
Guests: Steve Kenson, James Sheahan

3pm (Auditorium) Game Design with Established Properties
Converting established settings or properties into playable products. How do you make game choices interesting when designing games and capturing the feel of established properties such as Fallout, The Expanse, or board games for RPG properties (Pathfinder and D&D). Our guests will discuss mechanics and provide design advice for what has worked for them.
Guests: James Sheahan, Mike Selinker, Steve Kenson

4pm (Auditorium) Qualities of a Good Kickstarter
Kickstarters come and go. Some are amazing, and some are not. Join our accomplished guests in discussing how they prep for Kickstarter and what has worked, and not worked for them.
Guests: Keith Matejka, Mike Selinker

5pm (Auditorium) Space at the Table: How we make room for everyone
Games are for everyone! At least, they should be, but unfortunately, that isn’t always the case. Join us for a discussion about making our game tables and shared spaces more welcoming and inclusive.
Guests: Steve Kenson, Mike Selinker, Christopher Helton

11pm (bar): Breaking Into the Industry
Come meet our guests as we discuss how they got their start and how you might get involved yourself. Bring your questions and get ready for some stories!

Saturday

About

He got re-involved with board gaming when he found a mostly intact copy of HeroQuest at a garage sale. He started volunteering at U-Con in 2015. His current favorites are Bunny Kingdom, Viticulture, and Star Realms, but he's always looking for the next great game.
