Needed: U-Con Volunteers 2019
You might already know this, but U-Con is an entirely volunteer-driven organization. From the people who design our T-shirts (looking great this year, we’re excited to show you in a couple of weeks once we finalize colors), layout the con books, wrangle all our GMs, organize the auction, all the way up to the board of directors, the teams that ensure we have a place to host the con years in advance, and make sure our books are balanced so we can continue doing this in the future.
If you’ve been to U-Con in the past, you’ve doubtless seen this volunteer-centric mindset extends to those who are scurrying around between their own games, helping people find their events, distributing prize tokens, and checking folks in when they get here.
Why do we use volunteers?
- Volunteers are fun to work with. They tend to bring their passion of gaming with them, which helps for guests who might not know what they want to do next.
- Volunteers are flexible, which allows folks to help out for a few hours here and there and still get a chance to enjoy playing the games they’re looking forward to.
- Staff is expensive, volunteers are not. By being all volunteer, we can keep badges and event ticket prices low.
- It allows us to give back to those who want to support our local gaming community.
We need YOU to run a successful U-Con this year (and indeed, every year). Our team comes from all different backgrounds, and your skills, no matter how niche you think they might be, are sure to help us out! One specific person we’re looking for would be a photographer to help us get some great pictures this year so we can show people what we’re all about. If you or someone you know might be interested, please let us know!
You can find plenty of reasons to get involved on our volunteer page, even if it’s just because you need a little financial help attending U-Con 2019. If this sounds like the opportunity you’ve been looking for, just head over to https://www.ucon-gaming.org/about-u-con/contact-volunteer-coordinator/ to send your contact information to me, Matthew H, your volunteer coordinator.
