Games I missed from 2018

2017 was a great year for games. I tend to always run a little behind the coolest kids (I finally played Terraforming Mars for the first time 2 weeks ago), but I’m happy to say I got a chance to play a lot of great games from 2017. In fact, some of the favorites around my house were from this awesome batch. Spirit Island. Gaia Project. Wasteland Express Delivery Service. Dinosaur Island. Charterstone (I can’t bring myself to play the last chapter) and Gloomhaven (Playing consistently with the same group for over a year!) have claimed a significant amount of my life in the last 2 years.

But what about 2018? While I feel like I got to dip my toe into some of last year’s offerings (Root, Stuffed Fables, The Mind, Reef, and Villainous), I feel like there are a bunch I missed out on. Fortunately, U-Con tends to be my annual opportunity to check out the new hotness that hasn’t yet trickled into my local game group. Specifically, you can find me trying to catch the following this year:

Brass: Birmingham sounds like it’s right up my alley, but I’m not sure if I’ll like it more than Lancashire. Only one way to find out!

Welcome to… and Railroad Ink are both part of the roll and write category that I’m slowly beginning to appreciate (have recently also picked up Lanterns Dice, which I prefer to the original Lanterns).

Western Legends looks interesting, and I enjoy Great Western Trail and Colt Express, so maybe another cowboy game is what I need.

Betrayal Legacy is one that I’m not sure I’d appreciate fully playing in the U-Con setting, but if you’ve played it, track me down because I know I’ll need something to fill the void after we run out of Gloomhaven missions…

I can’t wait to figure out which games I missed this year so I’ll have something to look forward to next year 🙂 Which 2018 games are you looking forward to playing this year?

About

He got re-involved with board gaming when he found a mostly intact copy of HeroQuest at a garage sale. He started volunteering at U-Con in 2015. His current favorites are Bunny Kingdom, Viticulture, and Star Realms, but he's always looking for the next great game.
