Aftermath: Spooooooky October Games Library Day
Shambling towards Victory! Or in actuality, the edge of the table. Or each other…All Wound Up is a fun game but it needs a little “In-house ruling” to make it even better (and somewhat sensible).
We had a pretty small turnout for Spoooooky October Games Library Day for which I am totally blaming Facebook. I will blame myself a small bit too, but really Facebook has got to stop dinking with the internal workings such that I am unable to invite everyone in a group to an event. On the other hand, I probably should have posted something generally to the group before the actual day because then I would have found out that something didn’t go right with the invite. Still, we managed to cram a LOT of gaming in with just three tables of people.
First off, we had our second U-Con FormulaD Qualifier race which was rather exciting despite only fielding 4 cars. Eric M., David R., Rodney D. , and Nick B. set off in what has been the most grueling FormulaD track so far (out of two).
Lexington Ohio is apparently the race which will separate the men from the debris as we had two instances of car bits on the track, two instances of cars exploding instead of finishing and David R., our winner, made it across the line with no tires and no breaks.
Elsewhere there was a little Innovation going on.
And what would a Spoooooky Games Library day be without some horror themed Z-Man B-Movie card gaming? Here we are trying to complete our movie “Satan’s White Curse: Spawn of the Cosmic Parasite”. I hadn’t realized how vicious combining the decks of “Silent But Deadly Night” and “Grave Robbers III: Suburban Slashers from Sunnydale Street” would be because none of us were able to get a movie off the ground. The point ratio of “things I can put in my movie” versus “things I can use to stomp other people’s movie” was very skewed towards wanton movie destruction.
Speaking of destruction, Smash-Up! I’m not sure if this was one long game that kept going and going or if this group played several hands but they started about the same time we got out the B-Movies and were still going well into FormulaD several hours later.
Another table got out Relic Runners and had a go at that.
And what’s a spooooky gaming day without a little bit of Miskatonic School for Girls? After all, someone’s got to make it out alive (intact sanity optional).
But if you accidentally waken the sleeping ones, there’s always Worm Up! They crawl in and they crawl out but we saw no evidence of any pinocle being played on snouts or anywhere else.
We ended the night with a bit of wind-up zombie action. All Wound Up could be a clever, fun little game but the rules are hard to follow and not as helpful as they could be and the game dynamics need a little work. Sounds like some more play testing is in order!
