Aftermath: September Games Library Day

FormulaD
The first heat of the U-Con FormulaD races was a qualifying success!

We had a couple of fun awesome things at September’s “Crashing the Corner” Games Library Day and among them was the first of three FormulaD races. This heat saw Cheryl O., Matt B., Nick B., Rodney D., Corey O., Michael B., Nick O., and Meridith B. competing for a free ticket to a FormulaD event at U-Con. For the next two GLDs we will be running qualifier FormulaD events for a chance to score free tickets to a U-Con FormulaD game. Post time will be 3pm sharp so if you would like to compete, show up a tad earlier! Congratulations to Michael B. for coming in first and to Nick B. for keeping the excitement real and exploding his car all over the track.

Also a thanks to Matt G. for chucking a copy of Lascaux into the Library. We cracked it out and had a go at it with help from L’ouis l’Octopus. Here’s a tip: If you play with a game theorist than you best be prepared to be thoroughly trounced. Even my shiny rocks were no consolation for how badly I did.

Elsewhere Fish Cook, a right proper Cheapass game, was in full swing with parts scavenged from hither tither and yon. Why yes, that is Imperial money emblazoned with star destroyers. The more you tighten your grip, the more fish slip through your fingers. Or something.

More in line with October’s theme (SPOILERS!) here’s Mansions of Madness in media res.

Slide Trouble
David S. brought along his copy of Sorry Sliders which plays like the weird offspring of Sorry and Curling. It’s surprisingly hard to flick the pieces hard enough to get to the playing field but not so hard that they will end up in the center void. Those pieces have a death wish for that void.

It was like Christmas in September for we also got this stack of Mayfair games for the Library. Huzzah Catan! And Catan Jr. And Catan: Settlers of America!

…plus London. Bob M. and I peeled back the cellophane wrapping and with the help of Alex learned how to play. For the record, I was way out in the lead in the end when we added up all the points but unfortunately I didn’t get the hang of managing my poverty. Factor in the logarithmic poverty penalty scale and I went from 70 to 0 points in one short counting. Lesson learned: Poverty sucks everywhere.

Tune in on October 13th for the next iteration of Games Library Day. We are once again officially on the Corner’s calendar so pop by any time from 2 to 6pm. I’ll be filling up the Games Bucket with Monster themed games in honor of Halloween so bring your spookiest game to share.
