Aftermath: August Games Library Day
Hello and welcome to the after report for August’s Games Library Day. For the Theme of the Month, I decided to do something a little crazy and run an All-Fluxx game. Some said it couldn’t be done. Some said it would never end. Some said that I’d never get the decks back together but Sunday proved them all wrong! Well, maybe the part about the decks might still be relevant but I’m at least down to checking three of the ten decks to make sure all the right cards returned to their proper home.
I think it took more time to shuffle 10 decks of Fluxx (Fluxxes?) together (Fluxx, Family Fluxx, Eco Fluxx, Stoner Fluxx, Cthulhu Fluxx, Zombie Fluxx, Oz Fluxx, Star Fluxx, Pirate Fluxx, and Monty Python Fluxx) than it did to play one hand. We had about 9 or 10 people playing with 5 GINORMOUS stacks of draw cards spread about the table and managed to go around just about three times before Nick accidentally caused Bjorn to win. That happens quite a lot in Fluxx, actually.
BTW, for you Fluxx enthusiasts: Whilst I was poking about the Looney Labs sites trying to put my decks back together, I discovered Monster Fluxx which will be out September 1st at a Target near you.
Meanwhile, Nick H. put out his new FormulaD expansion track: Belle Isle. I was, sadly, not able to participate in the Belle Isle heat (lap? race?) so no Motown Motoring for me.
Kevin H. brought along his birthday gift of custom bloodied Jenga tiles (it’s Rit dye, don’t worry) and set up for some tense stacking action. I thought for SURE the tower was going down here but lo! Rich S. is one steady Jenga player. I will not reveal who eventually toppled the stack because I didn’t get a good action shot of it.
Kingsburg, a game new to me, made an appearance this month. It has a lot of pieces parts.
We also had some Lords of Waterdeep going as well. This game has quite a number of pieces parts as well but Kingsburg looked much more complicated. Maybe I ought to make a note to myself to play Kingsburg next time it comes around.
Do you know what game does not have a lot of pieces parts? Or at least does not have a lot of different pieces parts? Worm-Up! It’s a fun, silly game we cracked out to pass the time while waiting for a game in progress to wrap up. You have to move your worm (all those little dot pieces are your worm) by bidding on numbers of spaces (or really, number of segments you move from the back of your worm to the front of your worm). If nobody else bids on your number, you get to move your worm that many places. If someone else bids your number, you don’t move at all that turn. My worm might have moved all of two times. This is in no way related to the fact that I blocked another worm straight off the go. (What? It’s in the rules!)
Lastly, I made Nick flip over his FormulaD board and we ran a Lexington Ohio lap. You wouldn’t think a minivan could cause this much havoc but it does…at least when I’m piloting the minivan.
Thanks again to everyone who showed up; All-Fluxx was a whole bunch of fun as were all the other games that were out and about. Stay tuned for September’s Games Library Day (Unofficially) on September 15th – We’ll be crashing the Lounge area unless they have something scheduled (as of the end of August they do not). If the lounge area is booked, we will crash the bar area. THE GAMES WILL GO ON!
Also…be thinking FormulaD for September. I may have gotten a super sweet deal on a copy for the Library so Nick H. and I are cooking up something awesome. Details to come!
